CHAMPIONS.... SWALLOWS WIN THE LEAGUE!!

GRENOSIDE FC V SWALLOWNEST JFC  31/03/09

An unusual Tuesday fixture, saw the Swallows make the trip to Windmill Hill School near Chapeltown to face Grenoside FC .

The first five minutes were quite tight with both teams testing each other, but 12 minutes in saw a brilliant through ball from Taylor for Kiddy to break wide to then cut inside hitting target and forcing a great near post save by the Grenoside keeper. The swallows were starting to up their work rate and in turn see more possession. The tension slowly mounting due to the significance of the result.

A looping cross from Sellars saw  Kiddy take a difficult chance with a well taken half volley using the outside of his boot 1-0 to the swallows, the relief was well received by the Swallows entourage who went wild with the sound of air horns, screams and whistles!

With  J Morris and Denton again holding midfield and protecting the back four, who themselves were again in top form,B Morris, Sims, Butler and the cool calm Grayson giving nothing away, and when called on Marsh was rock solid between the sticks.

2ND HALF

The second half saw the Swallows start in determind fashion. Some great build up play gave Taylor the opportunity to shoot hard and low a confident take 2-0. With Grenoside battling on bravely, and their keeper making some great saves, the swallows had to be on form and it was again some good build up play that led to a scramble in the Grenoside penalty area, the ball eventually bobbling loose to Kiddy who this time with his left foot struck another volley to make it 3-1.

With Sellars on form and causing Grenoside no end of problems, they were under more pressure. A great cross saw Taylor head the ball towards the net, only to see the ball just cleared off the line, resulting in a Grenoside defender then trying to clear but a miss-timed clearance ended up in the back of the net 4-0 and game over.

In the last 8 minutes Grenoside scored a well deserved goal due to the delight of the home fans.

So there we have it a little piece of history has been made, as Swallownest Juniors U14s  2008/09 season will be crowned League Champions!!!!!!!!

Mark would like to thank all the boys for their tremendous effort and commitment, they have shown this season. They are a pleasure to coach, they have trained extremely hard and more importantly enjoyed their football. We thoroughly deserve to be CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
