U14's: Greasborough Youth 0-6 Swallows
Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 02:59PM
Swallows finally broke the deadlock after a well contested opening period with a goal from new boy Alex Lee which squeezed under the unlucky Greasborough keeper.
The goal seemed to settle the nerves.
A long ball through found the Greasborough defence some 5 yards into the Swallows half allowing Short to race clear from the halfway line and round the keeper to make it 2-0.
An excellently worked corner played short to Lee was flicked high to Denton who placed an excellent chip with the outside of his boot over the keeper for 3-0.
Swallows were defending brilliantly and the midfield was soaking up some good pressure from a strong Greasborough side. The Swallows were playing intelligent football with lots of passing in probably the best first half of football this year contested by two very good teams.
Half Time: Greasborough Youth 0-3 Swallows
Greasborough started the 2nd half with some sustained pressure culminating in a terrific fingertip save by Marsh to prevent a chip from lowering the deficit.
After a number of missed chances Swallows extended their lead as Boot ran through to place the ball to the right of the keeper for a well deserved 4-0.
Swallows extended the lead further with a scrappy corner that fell to Denton who turned well to pick his spot and make it 5-0.
Sellars then made a brilliant run down the left hand side to provide a pinpoint cross to Taylor who miscued, but Chatterley made no mistake with the loose ball to make it 6 to Swallows and a comfortable lead that had looked unikely in the first half.
Sellars then put the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score after good work from the right wing. So as we go into the cup game next Sunday the Swallows have regained their position at the top of the table, local rivals Beighton have had their game today postponed.
Full Time. Greasborough Youth 0-6 Swallows
Man of the match: Ben Morris. Excellent game and like all of todays defence, very consistent. Well done Ben, you earned your McDonalds on the way home ;-)
