CHAMPIONS.... SWALLOWS WIN THE LEAGUE!!

GRENOSIDE FC V SWALLOWNEST JFC  31/03/09

An unusual Tuesday fixture, saw the Swallows make the trip to Windmill Hill School near Chapeltown to face Grenoside FC .

The first five minutes were quite tight with both teams testing each other, but 12 minutes in saw a brilliant through ball from Taylor for Kiddy to break wide to then cut inside hitting target and forcing a great near post save by the Grenoside keeper. The swallows were starting to up their work rate and in turn see more possession. The tension slowly mounting due to the significance of the result.

A looping cross from Sellars saw  Kiddy take a difficult chance with a well taken half volley using the outside of his boot 1-0 to the swallows, the relief was well received by the Swallows entourage who went wild with the sound of air horns, screams and whistles!

With  J Morris and Denton again holding midfield and protecting the back four, who themselves were again in top form,B Morris, Sims, Butler and the cool calm Grayson giving nothing away, and when called on Marsh was rock solid between the sticks.

2ND HALF

The second half saw the Swallows start in determind fashion. Some great build up play gave Taylor the opportunity to shoot hard and low a confident take 2-0. With Grenoside battling on bravely, and their keeper making some great saves, the swallows had to be on form and it was again some good build up play that led to a scramble in the Grenoside penalty area, the ball eventually bobbling loose to Kiddy who this time with his left foot struck another volley to make it 3-1.

With Sellars on form and causing Grenoside no end of problems, they were under more pressure. A great cross saw Taylor head the ball towards the net, only to see the ball just cleared off the line, resulting in a Grenoside defender then trying to clear but a miss-timed clearance ended up in the back of the net 4-0 and game over.

In the last 8 minutes Grenoside scored a well deserved goal due to the delight of the home fans.

Full Time 4-1.

M.O.T.M- Ben Morris.

So there we have it a little piece of history has been made, as Swallownest Juniors U14s  2008/09 season will be crowned League Champions!!!!!!!!

Mark would like to thank all the boys for their tremendous effort and commitment, they have shown this season. They are a pleasure to coach, they have trained extremely hard and more importantly enjoyed their football. We thoroughly deserve to be CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SWALLOWS WIN IN THROSTLES THRILLER

Today saw the Swallows away to Throstles for round two of this table topping clash, and another important game in terms of points gained. The pitch, although a little hard is the best by far we have played on this season(and flat!).Credit to the Grounds man.

The game kicked off in lively fashion and within minutes the first chance fell to the Swallows,Hewitt hitting a volley just over the cross bar.But yet again in the same fashion as last week Throstles hit a great pass over the top for the Throstles number 4 to convert very competently 1-0 Throstles.

Then came a great solo run by Sellars putting a timely pass through to Taylor, which he drove hard and low to equalize 1-1.

Some great passing and movement then gave Hewitt a chance to strike on goal, again hit hard and low across the keeper but with this chance he made no mistake.A great take2-1 to the Swallows.

Second Half

Its fair to say chances were limited,a lot of the play being cancelled out by each team. However it was a great corner that saw the Throstles equalize with a thundering header giving keeper Marsh no chance, the pressure was mounting 2-2 with ten minutes remaining.

The Swallows of old may have hung on for a result, trying to play the game out,but not this determined group of young lads who of late will simply not give in.Not content with a draw some determined work by Boot Gave Sellars the chance to win the game and he didn't disappoint, a well placed effort making it 3-2 to the Swallows and game over.Three well earned points and very much a team effort from the Swallows.

Both teams contributed well to make this a competitive game of football and on this occasion there was very little between the two teams.Another great game of football, and another Swallows Victory.Wembley Stadium, view of pitch by richjp.

SUPER SWALLOWS GAIN PROMOTION!!!!

Today saw the top of the table clash between the Swallows and Throstles at the "Theatre of Dreams"(Burgoyne park to most people). In the first 10 minutes or so its fair to say that the Swallows had the majority of play starting well from the off. However it was Throstles who scored against the run of play with a well timed run that was taken neatly1-0 Throstles.Within 5 minutes the Swallows were equal with a great effort from Boot.Taylor then went on an attacking run and jinked pass several players before being tripped in the box.Penalty to the Swallows.A cool under pressure Kiddy struck the ball well to convert 2-1 to the Swallows.

Second Half.

The Swallows started again positively Taylor converting from another well worked corner.Throstles refused to give in and were giving everything to try and get back in the game, but the Swallows defence were working very hard and showing true battling qualities B Morris.Simms,Grayson and Butler working well together with Safe Hands Marsh on form again.

A well thought out free kick saw Kiddy drill the ball hard and low to beat the Throstles keeper to make it 4-1.J Morris and Denton were holding and marshalling midfield in spectacular fashion.Boot and Taylor showing true grit and working hard for the cause upfront.Sellars and Kiddy causing endless problems for the Throstles with their penetrating runs and crosses in to the box.The introduction of Hewitt and Chatterley continuing the great team work and effort with Chatterley then creating some space with some fancy footwork to create his opportunity which he took very well to make it 5-1.

This was the day Swallows deservedly gained promotion!!!!!!!

Manager Kiddy said"With promotion and at the very least second place now guaranteed it is important we stay focussed for the next three games and try to ensure we go up as Champions. We are working hard and enjoying our football,as for today a job well done boys.Simply Magnificent.

M.O.T.M Matthew Denton and Ryan Marsh.

SWALLOWS WORK HARD FOR VICTORY

On a cold wet and windy day the swallows faced Millhouses who were unbeaten in there last 5 outings and in good form.An open game in the first half saw end to end action from both sides,Kiddy eventually breaking the deadlock with a well struck shot that found the back of the net.Shortly afterwards Millhouses equalised with some great passing and movement to create there chance.H-T 1-1.

With the weather getting worse and the pitch cutting up badly the Swallows piled on the pressure, and had endless chances to score, but did not convert. At this stage a much improved and well organised Millhouses created 2 great opportunitys one missed and one denied by Marsh who was on top form,as well as the Defence who were battling on as the pitch started to worsen, due to the bad weather. With 10 minutes to go Sellars broke through to beat the keeper with a good shot to the relief of the players and spectators. Then with less than 5 minutes remaining a brilliant cross from Kiddy, with pace in to the path of Sellars saw him convert probably the most difficult of chances with ease hitting the ball sweetly and seeing it fly in to the net.Abrilliant game in difficult conditions, and credit to both teams for there commitment and attitude.

Assistant Gaffer Fabio Morris said after the game"A great team effort by all Defence Midfield, and Attack all excellent today.A good win in very tricky conditions".

Swallows kick off the New Year in Style

Swallows were at home to Pro Socker Pumas in the first encounter of the New Year.

This was the teams first game since the disappointing Cup round which saw the end of Swallows impressive 100% record which extended back to the first game of the season.

The game kicked off in sub-zero temperatures and the pitch was hard but not unplayable.  Within the first minute Swallows demonstrated their intent to put the Cup game well and truly in the past with two excellent efforts that went just wide.

Reece Taylor picked up the first goal from the edge of the box, from an extremely difficult angle.  Reece will claim it was a shot but it looked like a cross from where I was stood!

Matt Denton was next on the scoresheet, after a cross from Sellars and a mistimed shot from Brad Kiddy, 2-0.

Kiddy made no mistake with his next effort, a well taken header after a looping cross from Sellars, 3-0.

Sellars created his own chance next, his first goal attempt was blocked, but he gave the keeper no chance with the rebound 4-0.

Kristian Sellars was having a great first half, and he raced through to score the next with an offside appeal not given, 5-0.

Ryan Marsh in the Swallows goal had not had a lot to do - but he was called into action to pull off a tremendous save as Puma's took a free kick from the halfway line that looped towards goal.

Luke Chatterley popped up to score Swallows sixth after a nice through pass from Sellars again.

Half Time 6-0

The 2nd half kicked off in much the same way as the first, with swallows again dominating the play, but this time finding it difficult to increase the margin.

15 minutes into the half Reece Taylor lobbed the keeper to make it 7, substitute Danny Short smashed a low cross into the roof of the net for 8, Kiddy created and scored a 9th with another lob over the keeper.

And then Reece Taylor capped off a fine performance with a hat trick of goals to take the Swallows through to full time, his first a low shot to to the left after Short had flicked on a zipping cross from the right, the second another header meeting Sellars cross from the left, and finally a shot from the edge of the area.

Swallows are in very impressive form, and it will take a great performance from someone to prevent them from finishing the league with an unprecedented 100% record.  However the threat being posed by Throstles, who have overtaken Beighton Falcons and moved into 2nd place cannot be ignored and Swallows need to maintain their concentration, effort and teamwork to make sure they do not relinquish their current position at the top of the League.
